Wait ! Don’t judge me. I still use eco style gel *gasp Now that that’s out of the way. I’m sure there are some other great brands that will keep a great hold without flakiness but, I still have not found one that I am in love with. If you have any suggestions for me to try out please leave product names in the comment section, thank you in advance.
Well lets get to it. How I achieve my coil curls. So, First I typically start on freshly washed and conditioned hair. Typically, I do not dry my hair after washing it. I do not even bother because my hair absorbs water super fast because I have high porosity hair. I use the LOC method for most protective styles. Secondly, I apply some sort of leave in conditioner throughout my whole head. My leave in conditioner of choice is AS I AM leave in. It always leaves my hair feeling soft, manageable and my curls look refreshed. (side note: definitely recommend for wash and gos) Currently, however I have been using African Pride Olive Mircale Leave In and it is doing the job. So there is the L in LOC.
Thirdly, I apply Oil through out my hair. As depicted, I have been using African Pride Olive Miracle Growth Oil. I honestly have not tried too many oils out besides Coconut oil. Coconut Oil seemed to be super moisturizing for my hair, that I can say. (maybe my next blog will cover different brands of oils and the effect on my hair!)
After applying the products I section my hair using hair clips. I make sure to comb through each section before clipping my hair. During, this time of the year my hair needs extra moisture. I also will go through and apply oil to my scalp to help with any dryness and to promote growth. After some research, an oil that helps promote hair growth is Jamaican Black Castor Oil and jojoba oil. The oil I use incorporates various oils all in one, which makes things a lot easier for me. Okay! Now my hair is moisturized, my scalp feels good and my hair is neatly sectioned up.
Finally, what I think to be the fun part but, also the most time consuming. Get to coiling! I take down a section at a time. I take small section of my hair as pictured and apply AS I AM double butter cream and a small amount of eco style gel for the hold and began to wrap my hair around my finger about five times, then a couple of more time near the root of my hair. You’ll see the beautiful little coily curls begin to form and youll continue until your head is fully covered.
If your’e transitioning and trying coil curls I suggest using blue perm rods at the ends. This style last me about a week. This style can really be a life saver if you’ve recently done a big chop or just looking to switch it up from a twist out or braid out. It can be longer and more tedious than some of the other natural hair styles but, definitely worth it in the end. As you can see in the last picture, every coil has its place and is in formation.
