What is rice water?

Rice water, of course, is the starchy water left over after rice is cooked or left to soak. It is thought to make the hair smooth and shiny, as well as help it grow faster. Come on heaven or what who doesn’t have rice in their pantry….

How To Make Rice Water?

The soaking method is how I make my rice water, so here’s what I do..

  • take cup of uncooked rice
  • rinse thoroughly
  • place rice in a bowl with 2/3 cups of water
  • leave to soak for 30 minutes(I ferment for 2 days) I’ll talk about ferment a little later

Fermented Rice Water..beware of STINK

To ferment rice water you just follow steps 1-4 of the soaking method. Before straining, I leave the rice water to stand room temperature for 2 days, which allows it to ferment. Strain the rice water into a clean bowl before use. (Yes ladies it smells so stinky…but I can deal with the stink because my hair has benefited from using it.

Now, in my opinion, all of the amazing goodies are able to really gather when you allow it to ferment vs just the regular rice water…but by all means you can do it either way.

Speaking of Benefits…

Rice water is thought to contain many of the Vitamins and minerals contained in rice. These include:

  • amino acids
  • B vitamins
  • vitamin E
  • minerals
  • Antioxidants

So I mean it’s worth a try, those using rice water for hair believe it:

  • detangles the hair
  • makes hair smoother
  • increases hair shine
  • makes hair stronger
  • helps hair grow long

Honestly ladies and gents from my experience I have nothing but really amazing positive things to say… I plan on doing a blog on how I use it on my natural hair. My hair is more shiny, and strong and when I style my hair there is less breakage…so I’m team #ricewater

I especially like to moisturize with the rice water before doing any protective styles, because it allows my hair to really soak up the benefits while being protected.

I’ve seen several reviews and its pretty much half in half in my opinion, but some DO NOT like the rice water because they are protein sensitive. As long as I keep the balance between the protein and moisture my tresses are GOOD!
